AdPulp

Hello everyone,


This week’s blog is called AdPulp. Editor David Burn, publisher Shawn Hartley and writer Dan Goldgeier created the blog. The blog was launched in October 2004 and has since seen thousand of advertisement enthusiast’s eager to learn about the latest in the advertisement industry.


Here are a few questions we would like you to consider:

1. The creators of AdPulp are interested in helping to better the communications industry, through the AdPulp blog. Do you think their objective is working? Why or why not?

2. AdPulp followers have a lot to say about the recent Super Bowl commercials. Read some of the comments, look at a few ads and tell us what you think. Also look at the creator’s comments and see if you agree or disagree with their statements on the matter.

3. Who do you think is the target audience for the blog? What does the layout and name of the blog suggest about it or its writers?

4. Why do you think the creators put a list of other advertisement blogs on their website? Do you think this is helpful or harmful to their blog?

  1. I just checked out the blog and they already have a whole new page of posts from what was shown in class on Friday. Be sure to check them out! There are a few very interesting ones on there including the one about JC Penny and google. I totally agree google is good for searching for answers but is more than likely about who has more money when searching for something commercial.

  3. At the top of the page, the article "Know Your Usage Laws Or Pay Up" was written by featured writer, Dan Goldgeier. The article deals with a copyright infringement case in which a copywriter used a small scenic image from Google to complement a blog post for one of his clients. The end result was a 4,000 fine and subsequent apology letter. Goldgeier even adds a little humor to his comment, "I don't think I'll try to pull an appropriate image for this post". In which he pokes fun at the case and insinuates that he could easily be sued. Initially I was surprised at the harsh consequences for the copywriter. It didn't appear that he was trying to pass the image off as his own in order to make profit. With many of us using the internet to download pictures or videos on a daily basis, this article hits home with the lesson to be conscious of where we are posting the content we find on the web, because you never know who might see it.

  4. I've read some ads on the blog written by David Burn, finding out that he really likes to use other people's words to express his idea. For me, I felt it more reasonable when reading something not just stating one's opinions, and when the idea has some supporters. And I noticed one ad"Harley moves from one cage to another", David Burn used a lot of questions, this make the readers think more, and feel intersted. Also, the ads I saw on this blog are quite society associated, like water pollution, social connectivity, human trafficking which I found quite useful and worth thinking about.

  5. It seems to me as if their target audience is educated adults, I would say around the ages of 19 - 40. Just because of some of the subjects they are talking about, like J.C. Penny and the ceo. Also the type of writing is somewhat informal.
    I also think that the reason they put up other blogs is so that you can have more than one source and one opinion for ads. To help with communication between the blogs. It's a way of bringing variety.

  6. AdPulp is a very interesting blog. I love how news stories about the communication industry are thrown in with the advertisements. Not only are these stories interesting reads, but they also make David Burn appear more credible because the stories provide background information on the communication industry. The language is informal, so even the more news like stories are quick and easy reads. The entire blog is very user friendly, and readers between the ages of 20-35 should find this blog quite interesting.

  7. This is great everyone. Keep commenting and looking into the questions asked above. I really like how you're interpreting the diction being used. I would like to hear more on who the intended audience is, and why you think so. Also look at the recent comments located on the right of the blog. How do you think the followers of this blog feel about the writers and their posts? Do you agree with any of their points?

  8. I agree with the fact that the audience is educated adults between 19-mid to late 30s. The information given is easy to read but you need somesort of education to figure out what is going on. I think that the way in which they write and the topics they discuss show this.

  9. I agree that the audience is educated young adults. I like this blog because it has interesting posts that aren't all gossip or all news. It has a mix of news and media advertisements. For question 4, I think they put links to other blogs because they want to make sure people can see different point of views and therefore making it easier to get involved an understand what is going on.

  10. I think it's interesting the way that the videos are all grouped together in related categories. It has a professional setup and seems to be aimed at a more educated audiencd. I think that it is more straight forward and seems to shows less mainstream advertisements as well.

  11. I completely agree with Blansh. This blog also allows for a way of talking informally about formal topics. I also like how they go from print advertisements to video clips. I think it spices up the blog with all the ever-changing variety.

  12. The blog is mainly for older viewers rather than the "hip" scene. They talk about topic formally and make it informational. I also like how they go from print to video clips throughout the blog.

  13. I feel like this ad is different form the others. It is not a very bright and flashy ad to bring in readers that are interested in the image of the blog. It draws in readers who actually care about the cotent. I feel like the audience is for middle age adults because of the quality of the responses and comments. They are well prepared and very well thought out. These people know what they want to say and say it in a manner that sounds sophisticated and reserved.

  15. I feel that the commercials posted on this blog are somewhat less interesting and entertaining as the ones on blogs we discussed before. And the popular posts of this blog are mostly more formal articles discussing advertisement. I agree with you guys that the target audience of this blog should be someone more professional and truly have interest in advertising. I think the followers of this blog would feel that the writers of this blog are professional and experts in the area of advertising, and they provide their audience with opinions and analysis of advertising.
