AdRants

Hello all, this is the link for the AdRants website http://www.adrants.com/
Adrants is written by Steve Hall. It focuses on marketing and advertising news. Basically what's new today.
When you look at the blog look at the visual elements of the blog and how it is related to his blog posts. Provide proof for your comment about what the blog features implicitly say about the central theme, values or identity of the blog. Some comments could possibly be made on the martini glasses and the bright and bubbly background, what is the reason for this?

What do the posts and comments seem to say about the blog itself? Does the blog have any effect on our societies knowledge, values, ideas and anything else. Think also about the kinds of blogs he posts. Why do you think he chose these advertisements to write on? What type of relationship does he have with his readers?

Try to interact with each other and look at how other persons posts are similar to or different than your opinions on the blog.

  1. I think that his blog uses some very controversial advertisements to draw in readers. The way the blog is set up is very laid back and informal, but I wish that the man who posts all of these things would comment a little more on his blogs. Its hard to know what he really thinks or where he wanted the conversation to go if he doesn't even say anything!

  2. I don't know if the blog is as controversial as it is centered around gossip. I see Steve Hall as a man who uses the power of celebrity to draw in people to his blog. I agree that his posts are informal, but instead of using controversy he posts both ads and even news tidbits about popular celebrities. This blog to me is a cross between a blog for advertisement, and to a smaller extent, a site for celebrity news. (Although most news does center around their advertisements.)

  3. I agree gossip is a much better word.

  4. True, I can see how his blog is very much centered around gossip, and what's the latest thing today. Why does he seem to write about these types of things.

Also do his blogs say anything about our society today?

Why do you think most of the responses to the blogs are twitter comments? What does this say about his readers?

How does the way his blog looks interact with the types of blog he posts?

  5. I think the title of the blog “AdRANTs” plays an important roll in deciding what type of blog this is. When I look at the word “rant”, I think about someone who is not satisfied, going on and on and on about how unhappy they are. Maybe the author of the blog is trying to get people to look at the advertisements and say what they REALLY think. I mean I think it's pretty safe to say that most people feel it is harder to speak to someone in person, rather than texting on the phone, or over the internet.
Overall the blog seems very laid back, with the martini glasses and bubbles in the background. I think this is trying to suggest that the blog itself is just another one of your good friends who you are having a casual drink with. And we all know what happens when people get together to "catch up". Yes, you guessed it…they gossip.

  6. Steve Hall appears to take a very hands off approach when he posts on his blog. A comment by him is a rare occurrence, and so is a comment in general. Most responses to his posts come via twitter, and a lot of these are actually just ads. This shows that Steve Hall may not care about who actually follows his blog, but rather he cares about keeping the public informed about the world of advertisements.

  7. The vast majority of responses to Steve's posts are through twitter. This says a lot about the type of audience that this blog appeals to. Typically, young adults are the ones who use twitter. With smart phones in everyone's hands now-a-days it is easy for people to keep tabs on friends(or blogs) they follow while going about their daily routine.

  8. I think this is very true but isn't it possible to view his blog in general on a mobile device? So you wouldn't necessarily have to have twitter to follow his blog. I feel like there might be another reason why he has more twitter responses but I'm not quite sure what that reason is.

  9. I think the background goes well with the blog. The martini glasses and the fun bubbles fits with the gossip and other ads. This blog isn't really about heavy issues, and the background is light. I also find it hard to figure out how exactly he feels about the ads he posts. He doesn't usually say much, and that makes me wonder if he just puts some up that he thinks people will enjoy and want to see, or if he does choose them specifically?

  10. Along with the twitter posts that some of your are speaking of. I believe that it may be, since most of his posts are on gossip, people would rather get the latest juicy scandal on their phones. This way they could find out what is new faster and input their opinion right away.

Also in response to sarahupp, I feel like he does think a lot about the type of things that he posts, but they might be to just keep people informed and entertained. Also maybe to keep them coming back.

Does anyone else have a different point of view, or responses to any of the earlier questions either posed by me or the other students?

  11. I think that this blog is very intersting in the way it is set up. I feel like the author is trying to target everyday people and trying to get their opinions on different types of advertising and current issues in our society. One example was how the new Go Daddy commercial for the superbowl is a pair of legs. he tries to get the opinions of others since these legs can be considered a "racey" commercil to some. I also like that the creator of the blog comments back to his followers in a civil way. Unlike the last blog he is not rude and condescending. The background of the ad seems to be more gilry which makes me believe that it is more of a gossip column for women becasue the background was obviously chosen to appeal to some sort of reader. I really like the ads discussed and i think it is a way to show how normal everyday people feel about the way advertising influences our society as a whole and both the good and bad affects it has on us today.

  12. I agree with most of these comments, in that the blog is centered around the interests of the young female, in the form of looks, interests, etc. I feel like this is somewhat like the copyranter's blog, but more centered around the female rather than the male. The male cares much more about sexual interests, while women care more about gossip.

  13. I agree with the idea that the blog is targeting the younger female. It is also set up in a style that supports a busy lifestyle, open and consise, where you can just scroll down the page and click on the topics that interest you.

  14. i believe that this blog is targeted more at women because it has more of an emphasis on celebrities than the other blogs.

  15. the gossip feel of the blog is easier for women to read and the ability to read it on a phone helps too. even though most responses are off twitter

  16. I think this blog has a lot to deal with pop culture. If you look at the "Subject" located on the right side of the blog, you'll find "brands", "celebrity", "commercials" and "Super Bowl". I think it is generally telling people what's going on in this society.

  17. He picks some interesting stories and writes about what he thinks of them. Those "stories" focus on names that can be easily recognized by most people. And there are less people who comments on his posts than copyranter. Besides, they are both "rants".

  18. I feel like this blog is someone’s personal site where they can have fun commenting on that they want to talk about. It doesn’t seem as if it is very professional or has a point behind it besides to just talk, and mostly about other people and sex. I also think this blog is directed more towards women because it uses names and items that come from more of a womans world like Sephora and lingere. I feel like whoever maintains this blog just wants to write about stuff that isn’t exactly ‘main stream’ news, but fun different topics. The background is a dead give away to his approach as soon as the site is pulled up. He wants to have fun on his site and say what might be on a lot of people’s minds even if they don’t want to say it. He writes a lot about gossip and drama; and even has a comment where you can contact him that says, “Give us your gossip, your scoops, your best work, your competitor's work (good or bad), which agency stole your idea and the crazy things your boss does. You get the idea.” I think that quote sums his whole blog up right there.

  19. I think the main target of this blog is a group of young woman who like tidbit about the pop stars, celebrities. The news is quite lately, and Steve Hall's comments on the ads posted are easy to understand and discuss with.
