Adverlicious

http://adverlicious.com

Hi everyone,

This weeks blog is titled Adverlicious. This blog was created by James Gardner, and he calls it his "personal collection of online advertising." At the top of the page you will see different tabs for how you want to look at the ads.

Questions:

1.) Who do you think the target audience is and why?
2.) Do you think this blog is for fun? Information? Gossip? News? etc
3.) Since the host doesn't comment on the posts, does it make the blog seem more neutral because there are no opinions? Does this help or make it harder to analyze the ads?

14 comments:

  1. Another question to think about is how does the title contribute to the blog?

  2. The target audience is somewhat of any range of viewers because there is so much ad variety. This blog shows all of the flash advertisements companies create for the internet. This blog is very neutral due to no comments and gives the reader a fresh start when looking at the ads.

  4. For having the name Adverlicious, I think this blog tastes pretty bland. The layout is really boring. I mean there is no color to draw readers into wanting to read anything on the site. But maybe it is supposed to be this way to showcase the ads. I feel like the layout could be organized better. It sort of looks like everything is just jumbled together. However I like the different tabs at the top. I think it is cool how they made tabs for each company, industry and celebrity. I noticed there are hardly any comments which makes me wonder if anyone even looks at the site. Plus there aren’t any social networking “follow us on twitter” types of links, which makes me think the website is not publicized a lot. I would be interested in knowing how long the site has been up. At first glance of the site the ads it has posted look like ads you would find on the tops and sides of websites, which to me are pretty annoying (especially when you accidentally clock on one). I think if I were to come across this site I would look at it for about 30 seconds then close my browser because I thought I would get a virus or something.

  5. I agree with Drew that the blog's target is hard to define as a certain group, and I also agree with Julie that the blog is not so attractive, but useful in the way that it has categories. And maybe we can think this way, just because it has almost every kind of ads, and has link to other commercial which are related, imagine if you are writing a paper to analysis a brand's marketing skills, this would be quite helpful.

  6. I also agree that this blog is very plain and boring. It would not draw me in to read the ad because there is no color and not very many pictures. I think that this blog is mostly for the author, he is posting these ads for his own enjoyment and maybe doesn't care so much about what his audience thinks about the posts. I think this blog might be intended for more professional people who are working with marketing.

  7. I think it is interesting the way that all the ads are so straightforward. They just post the ad, but do not elaborate at all. This does make the blog seem dull, and does not really help you learn how to analyze, but it opens the stage for analysis.

  8. i agree that the blog is somewhat boring but i do think that it is important to be plain so the reader can make their own interpretation. I believe the audience is people who can interpret these ads by them selves. i also think that the editor tries to make himself easy to approach. I believe this ad could relate to the editors job but is just for fun.

  10. The blog may seem a little boring and plain, but i believe that the creator did that for a reason. He said in his bio that he has come across these ads through his own research and wanted to share them. The focus of this blog is not supposed to be on how fancy the website is, but more about just the ads. As for the target audience, it is hard to say because from the types of ads and the reasoning in his bio, this almost seems like the creator didn't have a target audience. But rather that he was trying to just share the ads with anyone who wanted to see them.

  11. I agree with Meghin. The author is not trying to be fancy, I believe he is passionate about ads and wants that to be the only focus on his site. Also let's think about why the author chooses so many different ads.
do you think it's because he likes them all?
Or does he try to put several different kinds of ads on for all different people?

  12. I think that this blog is interesting because the ads don't always focus on traditional forms of advertising. The author likes to post the type of ads you see on a website. The flash player ads that run when you go to certain websites. We don't normally think of these ads, but in this internet age they are all over the place, so it is nice that the author doesn't forget about them for his blog.

  13. The blog does not have too many designs on its page; it looks simple and plain. The commercials posted don't seem to be fancy either. In a word, it's pretty different from the blogs we have discussed before. The commercials on the website are all online ads, rather than the TV commercials posted on the blogs before. The author's bio expresses his desire to be close to his audience, and he wants to share his favorite ads with them. I believe the author created this blog just for the purpose of sharing, and I think its target audience might be those people who create online ads for websites.

  14. It is nice that the blog has tabs because it makes it easier to find what you're looking for. The way it is set up though makes it look like a newspaper website. Also there are many ads about news and current events. Adverlicious isn't very appetizing to look and it does not bring me in. It's very bland and blah. It would be more interesting if more color were added. Also as for the audience, I believe it is aimed at adults maybe like 30's or 40's because there's a lot of news. I don't think that the title adds anything, I think they put that name to bring in people but then they did nothing to support the title in the actual blog.
