Adverlicious

http://adverlicious.com

Hi everyone,

This weeks blog is titled Adverlicious. This blog was created by James Gardner, and he calls it his "personal collection of online advertising." At the top of the page you will see different tabs for how you want to look at the ads.

Questions:

1.) Who do you think the target audience is and why?
2.) Do you think this blog is for fun? Information? Gossip? News? etc
3.) Since the host doesn't comment on the posts, does it make the blog seem more neutral because there are no opinions? Does this help or make it harder to analyze the ads?

AdPulp

Hello everyone,

This week’s blog is called AdPulp. Editor David Burn, publisher Shawn Hartley and writer Dan Goldgeier created the blog. The blog was launched in October 2004 and has since seen thousand of advertisement enthusiast’s eager to learn about the latest in the advertisement industry.

Here are a few questions we would like you to consider:

1. The creators of AdPulp are interested in helping to better the communications industry, through the AdPulp blog. Do you think their objective is working? Why or why not?

2. AdPulp followers have a lot to say about the recent Super Bowl commercials. Read some of the comments, look at a few ads and tell us what you think. Also look at the creator’s comments and see if you agree or disagree with their statements on the matter.

3. Who do you think is the target audience for the blog? What does the layout and name of the blog suggest about it or its writers?

4. Why do you think the creators put a list of other advertisement blogs on their website? Do you think this is helpful or harmful to their blog?

The Inspiration Room

The Inspiration room was started in 2006 by its founder, Stephen Molloy. Originally created as a means to share inspirational television and print ads, the blog now receives a vast amount of material submitted by everyone from PR companies, photographers, music companies, and independent artists.

As stated on their website: “The Inspiration Room is a global effort designed to influence, affect and involve creative communities in the development of a world standard for inspiration.” Do you think the website is successful when you consider their purpose? Take a look at the ads on the website itself. What might the advertisements reflect about the target audience of this blog?

AdFreak

Hi all,
This is the link of the blog that we discussed in class today. http://adweek.blogs.com/adfreak/

AdFreak is edited by Tim Nudd, and it has six contributors in total. It is a part of Adweek, a website that contains advertising industry news. AdFreak is basically about advertising and marketing in modern society. It shows people the best and the worst of advertising.

To start our discussion, look at the posts by different contributors. Are there any differences between their writing styles? What can you tell from the ads they posted? And what do you think the name of the blog "AdFreak" implies? What do you think the blog is telling about pop culture?

AdRants

Hello all, this is the link for the AdRants website http://www.adrants.com/
Adrants is written by Steve Hall. It focuses on marketing and advertising news. Basically what's new today.
When you look at the blog look at the visual elements of the blog and how it is related to his blog posts. Provide proof for your comment about what the blog features implicitly say about the central theme, values or identity of the blog. Some comments could possibly be made on the martini glasses and the bright and bubbly background, what is the reason for this?

What do the posts and comments seem to say about the blog itself? Does the blog have any effect on our societies knowledge, values, ideas and anything else. Think also about the kinds of blogs he posts. Why do you think he chose these advertisements to write on? What type of relationship does he have with his readers?

Try to interact with each other and look at how other persons posts are similar to or different than your opinions on the blog.

Copyranter

This week we're looking at a blog called Copyranter.

Here are some questions to start our discussion:

What kinds of choices is the author making with his language? Why do you think he's making them?

This blogger says he's a New York copywriter. What do you think is driving his particular interest in global advertising?

Who do you think are the people who comment on these posts? When Copyranter chimes into the conversation, what kind of relationship does he seem to be establishing with them?

What do you think is the function of this blog? What is it's intended purpose?
