The Inspiration Room

The Inspiration room was started in 2006 by its founder, Stephen Molloy. Originally created as a means to share inspirational television and print ads, the blog now receives a vast amount of material submitted by everyone from PR companies, photographers, music companies, and independent artists.

As stated on their website: “The Inspiration Room is a global effort designed to influence, affect and involve creative communities in the development of a world standard for inspiration.” Do you think the website is successful when you consider their purpose? Take a look at the ads on the website itself. What might the advertisements reflect about the target audience of this blog?

  1. This blog is unlike those that we have seen thus far in class. The opinions that were in the other blogs don't seem to exist. The other simply posts details about the advertisement, not connecting to how he feels in anyway. I'm not sure that this is a good strategy but at the same time it's slightly more welcoming than coming in and seeing someones opinion that might not necessarily agree with your own.

  2. This blog site is different than the others. It's very factual but at the same time contains opinions about the topic. These opinions might not agree with your own, but it is nice to read something else than what you think is right.

  3. I agree with Lacey and Drew this blog does not really give an opinion but it just describes the ad or video. I like this because it is not like someone is trying to push their views on you. You are able to make an opinion for yourself. Although sometimes the fun of reading something is to disagree with it. I also like the layout of this blog it is very sophisticated and simple. I also like how this site is divided up into sections such as music videos, tv ads cinema and online videos and then print ads and billboards. This makes it much easier for the reader to find something that they might specifically be interested in.

  4. Articles in this blog are mainly introduction about the commercials without comments on them, and the words used are objectively stating the facts. It gives the audience more space to think on their own, not affecting by the writers' opinion, but somehow it's plain to read, because there are not much communication between the writer and the audience. It is a great blog in which the ads are lately and appealing, maybe that's why its name is inpiration room.

  5. It is hard for me to say who the target audience is for The Inspiration Room. Currently many of their posts are about Super Bowl commercials. Other posts focus on vehicles, music and movies. I think because of the simplicity of the layout, it being mostly black and white, the creators of the blog are simply trying to inform their audience (whoever may come across it online) without having any nonsense or gossip. They are not trying to persuade their reader, rather inform them on what is happening in the advertisement industry today.

  6. This blog, in my opinion, is the most centered around strictly advertising of all the blogs so far. There are opinions about the advertisements, but it doesn't happen too often. The majority of the posts were just posts containing new ads and its refreshing to be able to go on a blog and not be bombarded with opinion.

  7. Like most people have been saying, you don't know the authors point of view. Though I wish this was not the case, because there's nothing to argue against or agree with, which makes for a harder conversation. Most of it is just interpretation. As far as the audience, I don't think there is one. I think since there's no opinion it tries to make the audience broad so anyone can comment on anything.

  8. I really like how alot of the really funny Super Bowl commertcials made it on to the blog, but i dont like it that they can't be viewed on the blog as well. On the other blogs we have looked at you have been able to play the video. I also noticed that the blog doesnt contain alot of opinion based comments. I feel like the blog is meant to be viewed and people are supposed to think of the opinions themselves rather than have the creator do it for them. I do miss the arguments that happened in the comments on some of the other blogs though, that was something that made it interesting for me.

  9. I love the way this blog is set up with large pictures and small caption-like paragraphs that make it easier to read and the tabs on top with the topics make the entire blog more reader friendly. The straight-forwardness of the blog is also appealing because it gives the straight facts.

  10. I really liked how this blog featured the most recent events that are impacting viewers across America. The super bowl commercials are always a popular hit, and are widely conversed about among the nation. These commercials are very good topics because they can lead into many different dynamics in a conversation. I would have liked to see more opinions from the author about the subjects.

  11. I think Xinwie Wu makes a good point about it giving the readers more room to think for them selves. It is called the inspiration room after all. The plain setup keeps the focus on the ad and the unopinionated descriptions allow for creative interpret.

  12. I agree that the title, "The Inspiration Room", is a very appropriate title because this blog lets its viewers decide how they feel about the blog themsleves instead of being influenced by the authors opinions. This is a good and bad thing, depending on what you want to get out of the blog. If you are looking for a good debate, this is not a good blog. But if you just want to read a non-biased blog, this is the one for you!

  13. This is a very interesting blog for the fact that it is, I think, the first blog presented that is without bias. It gives a description of the ad, but does not attempt to sway the reader in any way. This allows for a more "think for yourself" approach which is more beneficial for the intellectual world. It is good for thinkers, but it is not the proper blog for those wanting a "laugh".

  14. I think this blog is very interesting and has a lot of input recently becasue of the knew superbowl ads. These ads are always racey and because of this the authors of the blog have a lot to talk about and cover. I like the title it is very creative and it gives readers the inspiration and drive to think about these interesting topics and ideas behing ads. There aren't many tweets about the certain ads but it has definitely been viewed more since superbowl sunday. I like the set up of the ad aswell it is not too showy and is truely meant to be read and thought about not just looked at becasue of its appearance.

  15. I think this blog is successful considering its purpose. Its name is "The Inspiration Room", and it simply means to provide people with inspiration in advertising. I think many of the commercials they post are creative, so I think this blog is successful in this way. The authors of this blog not only provide the details of the commercials they post, but also provide what they think about them. I think this is a good way to communicate with their audience. The Curtin Univeristy one appeals to me especially, as I think it is creative and kind of different from other commercials for universities. From this, I can see that the target audience of this blog is probably educated, higher level people who are interested in advertising.
